As the client was based in Japan during the Design and Documentation Stage, the communications were essentially over the telephone and via email. Geoffrey and his wife Ayomi were keen to see how iarchitecture could transform a tired old brick veneer and tile urban style dwelling into an elegant beach style pavilion that celebrated its commanding position over looking the South Pacific Ocean.
The end result was to present as though it were a totally new building.
With face to face reviews limited to every 3 months, the process relied upon clearly understood communications, as there was no room in the program to back-track design decisions.
A dedicated small team within the Nowra Office including Project Director, Project Architect and Interior Designer, worked together throughout the process to ensure a precisely documented, fully detailed project would emerge. The client’s absolute trust and confidence in our abilities allowed iarchitecture to control every aspect, whilst still being in regular contact with the client.
The project delivery was assisted greatly by bringing the preferred local Builder into the process very early so he too could understand how the Design developed and know intimately what our requirements would be. One obvious advantage is cost planning and reporting information direct from the Builder at every stage. This helped the client understand cost implications of Design decisions, and many extra cost items agreed before the final agreed contract price.
The client appreciated that we could manage the entire process of many complex issues and still achieve an exciting building that exceeded expectations and then still to be acknowledged by several awards.
